PM Citu to USR PLUS members: Disavow your leaders' actions

Prime Minister Florin Citu manifested his disapproval towards the attitude that the co-chair of the Save Romania Union - Party of Liberty, Unity and Solidarity (USR PLUS), Dan Barna, had, on Thursday, in Parliament, at the reading of the censure motion, when several MPs were aggressive towards Liberal Florin Roman, deputy speaker of the Chamber, Agerpres informs.

The head of the Executive reproached Barna that he could have intervened to stop the scandal in the parliamentary session, yet he did not do so.

"I was yesterday in the Parliament of Romania - the chair of the USR standing passively and watching how those maskless MPs were aggressive to a colleague of mine and were saying nothing, such attitudes cannot be tolerated and the chair of the USR, Dan Barna, yesterday [Friday], in the Romanian Parliament, had the opportunity to be the one to say, to end these events that we saw yesterday there. I thought that I was sitting at the table with a pro-European party, a party that does not support violence in any way in the Romanian Parliament. Unfortunately, it seems I was wrong. At the same time, I am sure that among USR members, among USR voters there are people who think and feel like us. There are people with pro-European visions, there are people who believe in democracy, there are people who do not believe that violence is a way by which to impose your point of view and those people I am sure are disappointed and feel disappointed by the decisions of these leaders - Dacian Ciolos and Dan Barna, to make an alliance that was very clear yesterday in the Romanian Parliament. Nobody can deny that the yesterday the actions in the Parliament of Romania, of those in AUR [Alliance for the Union of Romanians], were supported, and very clearly so, by the leadership that the USR has today. I appeal to all people in the USR, who still feel European and want democratic values, want democratic values, to disavow the actions of their leaders in the Romanian Parliament yesterday," said Florin Citu.

The Prime Minister emphasized that, through their attitude, the USR PLUS leaders have legitimized AUR.

I trust BNR to find solution for tempering inflation dynamics

Prime Minister Florin Citu has expressed his trust, on Friday, that the National Bank of Romania (BNR) will intervene in order to "temper the inflation dynamics", after the inflation rate in August was 5.3%.

The head of the Executive declared on Friday, in Iasi, that net investments in the economy have gone up from the previous year by 10%, expressing his trust that the fiscal and monetary policies will determine a drop in inflation.

"We see this rise in prices especially in foodstuff. I looked at the numbers this morning. That is where the dynamic is the largest, in foodstuff. For non-food items there is a 3% increase. I trust that the National Bank of Romania will find the solution for tempering the inflation dynamics, but we have also some good news today: net investments in the economy have gone up from the previous year, when we had record investments, they increased by 10% during the first half of the year or by 12% during the second quarter, which means that our strategy of investing in the economy, of increasing income, is working and I believe that the fiscal policy we are implementing, along with the monetary policy, will surely lead to a reduction in the inflation dynamics and will yield good results in the upcoming period," Citu said.

Florin Citu presented on Friday the motion with which he is running for the leadership of PNL (National Liberal Party) in front of the College Directorate of the Iasi subsidiary.

PM Citu about energy price capping: I don't think you can do that in the European Union

Prime Minister Florin Citu rules out the possibility of freezing energy prices, thus rejecting the proposal from the Social Democratic Party (PSD).

He told a press conference held in Iasi, that the Executive will take measures so that the increases in electricity and gas prices do not affect the population very much.

"Price capping is more complicated. We are in a liberal economy. I don't think you can do that inside the European Union. We will look at all the solutions to make sure that this winter Romanians will not suffer from these bills," said Citu.

Florin Citu is in Iasi to present the motion with which he is running for the National Liberal Party presidency.
