Romania is a firm and responsible ally of the United States, and for cooperation to develop within the Strategic Partnership as many investments as possible are needed, Prime Minister Viorica Dancila stated on Wednesday at Victoria Palace during the meeting with the Romanian-American Business Council (AMRO) led by Executive President Eric Stewart, reads a press release of the Government.
The talks held by the premier and several ministers in the Cabinet with the AMRO delegation focused on investment opportunities in Romania as strengthening leverage of the cooperation between Romania and the United States in all the domains within the Strategic Partnership.
The Prime Minister presented the investment boosting measures already adopted by the Gov't, among which the amendment of the public procurement Law, the state aid scheme for investments with a major economic impact, as well as the 21 projects to be accomplished in private-public partnership.
According to the release, the representatives of the US companies present at the meeting thanked the Government for their openness and showed interest in extending investments in Romania's defence industry, the medical, IT, energy and infrastructure fields.
"AMRO Executive President Eric Stewart gave assurances that the representatives of the US investors will further uphold Romania's joining the OECD," the release informs.
Another important aspect of the discussions was the development of cooperation in the defence industry. In context, National Defence Minister Mihai Fifor mentioned Romania's privileged relation with the United States and the share held by defence in the cooperation within the Strategic Partnership.
Moreover, with regard to the interest manifested by the US investors in the defence industry in Romania, the Government's interest in boosting investments was underscored.
"We wish the largest possible share of the 2 percent of the GDP allocated to defence be found in the national defence industry, by drawing offset contracts - technological transfer and industrial cooperation," Minister Fifor stated as quoted in the release.
