Prime Minister Mihai Tudose on Thursday welcomed representatives of Bell Helicopter at the Government House to discuss the intention to buy attack helicopters from the American company.

The Government says in a press statement that also attending the meeting were Defence Minister Adrian Tutuianu, Economy Minister Mihai Fifor, Chief of Romania's General Army Staff Nicolae Ciuca, Chief of Romania's Air Force Staff Laurian Anastasof. "After the talks, the Defence Minister Adrian Tutuianu, signed a letter of intent asking for prices and availability for the acquisition of attack helicopters that will be addressed to the US Government," the Government says.

The meeting at the Government House was preceded by a technical discussion at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defence. "In the period ahead, there will be a thorough discussion between representatives of the Ministry of Economy and those of Bell Helicopter regarding the setting up of a joint venture, as well as technological and know-how transfer allowing the production of helicopters on Romania's soil. The decision will have a direct impact on the economic development of our country, while being at the same time a security generator in the area. We want to mention that the decision on the acquisition of attack helicopters is based on the acquisition plan recently approved by the Supreme Council for National Defence."
