Police have opened criminal cases for 11 possible election crimes in the ongoing local and European elections in Romania, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MAI).
"Since the beginning of the voting process, 73 notifications of possible violations of the law have been registered, 37.6% less than the incidents reported by the same time in the previous local and European parliamentary elections. Of these, 19 have not been confirmed, and another 17 are under investigation," according to MAI spokesperson Monica Dajbog.
Also, nine warnings have been issued and eight fines worth RON 7,800 have been levied.
According to the MAI official, 1,032 reports were received under the voter turnout monitoring and illegal voting prevention system, of which about 930 relate to the validation of voters not registered in the electoral rolls. No voting fraud has been reported.
