Romania needs balance, professionalism and decisions grounded in law, only in this way can we strengthen a modern, secure state worthy of its citizens' respect, President Nicusor Dan said on Monday in a message delivered on Romania's Constitution Day.
"On this day, I reaffirm my ongoing commitment to strengthening constitutional order and the mechanisms of the rule of law. Romania needs balance, professionalism and decisions grounded in law. Only in this way can we strengthen a modern, secure state worthy of its citizens' respect. I convey all Romanians a message of responsibility and trust. Democratic stability is a construction strengthened day by day and Romania must continue in this direction, with clarity and respect for the rules that protect us all," the head of state said, according to a Presidential Administration release sent to AGERPRES on Monday.
The head of state mentioned that Romania's Constitution Day is "a moment that invites us to take a serious look at how the state functions and at the responsibility we have towards the rules which ensure balance in society."
"The Constitution is the reference point of our democracy and the instrument through which we guarantee citizens' freedoms, the separation of powers and the functioning of institutions within clear and predictable limits. The experience of recent decades shows clearly that Romania progresses when it observes the constitutional order and stagnates when it ignores this framework. For our country, institutional stability and the rule of law are not mere principles, but conditions for national security, economic development and public confidence. We need institutions that exercise their powers with rigour, procedures implemented uniformly and a culture of legality which we can all share. Romania's major projects, from the modernization of administration to strengthening defence capabilities, depend on this foundation," Nicusor Dan added.
According to the president, "observing the Constitution means not only limiting the abuse of power, but also the state's ability to act efficiently, responsibly and transparently." "It is the basis of a public contract in which every citizen knows they have protected rights and authorities that operate predictably," the head of state concluded in the message occasioned by Romania's Constitution Day.
