President Klaus Iohannis will hold political consultations on Friday at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace with US Vice President Kamala Harris, who will be on an official visit to Romania, according to the Romanian Presidential Administration.

The presence of Vice President Harris in Romania is said to reconfirm the strength of the bilateral strategic partnership and the firm commitment of the US to supporting the security of Romania and NATO allies on the eastern flank, while reflecting the appreciation of the US Administration for Romania's responsible and committed approach amid the current security threats generated by the illegal aggression of the Russian Federation, as well as in the management of refugees from the borders and the provision of humanitarian assistance.

The Presidential Administration notes that the meeting between the two officials is part of close NATO and transatlantic co-ordination efforts to manage the security situation, especially in the Black Sea, with an impact on Euro-Atlantic security, and continues consultations at the highest level of the leaders of the allied nations of February 11, 18 and 28, attended by President Klaus Iohannis and initiated by the President of the United States, Joseph R. Biden, Agerpres.ro informs.

"President Klaus Iohannis and Vice President Kamala Harris will discuss NATO measures to reinforce NATO's deterrence and defence posture on the eastern flank, including the prospect for further increasing the US and NATO military presence in Romania, as additional safeguard. Security in Romania and the whole region will also be addressed. The coordination of the transatlantic community on the adoption of new sanctions against Russia will be further addressed," the Presidential Administration points out.

Vice President Kamala Harris' visit also takes place as part of the 25th anniversary in 2022 of the bilateral strategic partnership between the US and Romania, a relevant anniversary to boost further deepening of all the dimensions of the strategic partnership.

Also, the meeting between Iohannis and Harris will be a good opportunity to reconfirm the common commitment to strengthening the transatlantic relationship and promoting democratic values and resilience, according to the Presidential Administration.
