The presidential candidate supported by PSD, PNL, UDMR and the group of national minorities, Crin Antonescu, told a press conference on Friday, in Giurgiu, that there is a surprisingly large amount of hatred and violence on the Romanian political scene, things that are alien to the recent decades' Romania and that must be stopped.
"I think that until May there is an apparently short period, but there will be some long days, you can see very well that every day brings news and on the international scene, not all of them reassuring. Oon the Romanian scene, too, there is a surprisingly higher than ever amount of hatred, of violence, from social media to the actual weapons that we see. These things have never happened before in Romania and they must be stopped (...) There are also forces outside the country that would be happy if Romania, from a stable society and on a path of development, were no longer like this (...) I believe that Romania has the resources to resist," Crin Antonescu said.
The president of the Giurgiu County Council (CJ), liberal Toma Petcu, compared Romania to "a derailed train that can be brought back on track by Crin Antonescu".
The press conference was also attended by the PSD Giurgiu president, MP Marian Mina, who expressed his regret that the coalition parties did not have a common presidential candidate earlier.
The leader of PNL Giurgiu, MEP Dan Motreanu, also present at the press conference, emphasized that through his candidacy, Crin Antonescu managed to bring unity to the governing coalition, both at central and county level.
