Former National Liberal Party (PNL) leader and presidential candidate Nicolae Ciuca says that the Romanian Constitutional Court's decision is unprecedented in Romania's democratic history and that the current situation is a difficult test for the country's democratic institutions, informs Agerpres.
"Dear Romanians, the Constitutional Court's decision to annul the first round of the presidential elections is unprecedented in Romania's democratic history. In such an important moment, it is essential that we show calm, unity and maturity, putting the interests of the country and the defence of democratic values at the forefront. As a former candidate and leader of the National Liberal Party, I fully understand the importance of the legitimacy of the electoral process. Therefore, I support all necessary efforts to clarify any suspicions and to guarantee a fair election that reflects the real will of the citizens," Ciuca wrote on Facebook on Friday.
He emphasized that the current situation is a difficult test for the democratic institutions of the country.
"Only through open dialogue, transparency and respect for the rule of law can we overcome this moment and strengthen citizens' trust in Romania's future. Romania needs stability, vision and cooperation between all responsible political forces. In these moments of uncertainty, I urge you to remain united and to act with maturity and mutual respect. Together, we can build a better future for the generations to come," Nicolae Ciuca added.
