Mircea Geoana, an independent candidate in the presidential elections, on Sunday launched his political offer "My firm commitment to Romania: true change for a decade of national rebirth.", informs Agerpres.
"I have never believed myself - a man who has had a lifetime experience and has faced political opponents, has known victory and defeat - that I will ever seen unleashed a disinformation, defamation campaign, (...) public lynching attempt from abroad, from the Russians, from the oligarchs and yes, on an equal foot from the current parties. In the end, if they say we do not stand a chance, they were saying we would not collect the signatures, they come with fake polls, why such a fuss against my candidacy and our candidacy? Well, we do not represent any danger to them, right? They see us from abroad and from home as a danger to their interests, to the manner in which they make politics and our mission, winning the presidential elections to change Romania and go on a path to prosperity, respect and influence," Geoana said at the launch of his political offer which took place in an event centre in the Capital.
He maintained that politics in Romania is outdated and he would propose a different model. Mircea Geoana also said that he would ask under political contract, before any government was installed, a few common commitments, such as public services digitisation, nationwide cadastral survey, legislation decoding.
"What is the essence of my commitment and of our commitment - of the Romania Reborn Movement - and of those who will join us is to try with everything we have as energy, experience and contacts to do and to finally put the country above parties and people above politics. This is my commitment to this nation," the independent candidate in the presidential elections said.
Geoana referred to King Mihai statements and said he would be "a right and skilled leader."
Furthermore, he showed that he was a supporter of meritocracy, depoliticisation and promoting performance in the public sector.
Mircea Geoana said he would propose a new "Snagov Pact," but not necessarily in the same location, with the political forces in order to "be able to lay the foundations for ten years of national rebirth for Romania and a different manner of doing politics."
He showed concern for the economic situation, saying that correction measures would need to be taken. He pleaded for order and predictability in the manner of spending public money and mentioned one of his proposals.
"An economic semester to be presented to Parliament at mid-year to be able to see ahead before the end of the budget-fiscal year what needs to be done and if the government keeps within the parametres it assumed when building the budget in the beginning, both on deficit and inflation, as well as in terms of European money, and we must have a stronger role of the Fiscal Council, which is purely consultative, and I propose after a British model a financial Ombudsman having a word to say in the National Bank in Romania and one in Parliament, to make sure that everything that means public spending is carefully watches and carefully assessed," Geoana also said.
The former NATO deputy secretary general proposes declaring the education and health care systems national priorities.
Geoana also presented the proposals concerning foreign policy.
"Romania's main obligation is to keep the country in peace," the independent candidate said, adding that he wanted Romania to assume the role of the sixth nation in Europe. He also said that the Romanian diaspora needed to come back home.
Geoana pleaded for investment in the Army. "We need outstanding quality information systems," he added. Mircea Geoana also spoke of the war in Ukraine, as well as the Romanian communities in that country.
"We are helping with everything we can, with everything we know, with good faith and with good intentions, but it is not OK for the Romanian communities there, it is not OK what is going on with the Romanian churches there. (...) Romanians from Ukraine are welcome in Romania and we owe it to them to help them including in terms of religion," the independent candidate in the presidential elections said.
He also showed that he would ask the future Parliament to set Saint Andrew's Day as a national day of prayer and reconciliation.
Geoana also said that he would be the partner and friend of all non-governmental movements and volunteers. In this sense, he mentioned he would also ask the new Parliament that Earth Day should be a national day of volunteering, heritage and nature.
The independent candidate for Romania's president accused that there would be election fraud attempts and made a call on Romanians to turn up to vote.
Also participating in the event moderated by Sanda Nicola were representatives of the Romania Reborn Movement, such as Alina Achim, Dumitru Bortun (president), as well as Ploiesti elected mayor Mihai Politeanu.
