PSD's Dragnea: 'Recordings with Tutuianu have upset colleagues; Neacsu negotiated with opposition leaders'

PSD (Social Democratic Party) leader Liviu Dragnea on Monday said that two thirds of the party's National Executive Committee (CExN) members voted for the exclusion of Adrian Tutuianu and Marian Neacsu, also specifying that those who made this decision were upset by the content of the recordings featuring Tutuianu that the mass media took over and by the fact that Marian Neacsu stopped doing his job as secretary general of the PSD.

Dragnea told a press conference that, after the most recent meeting of the Executive Committee, where they voted to reject a letter of some of the PSD leaders who rebelled against the leadership, they decided everyone must support the Government and the governing programme.

"And these things were proposed back then precisely by those who signed or supported the letter. They agreed with my proposal - as I didn't agree at that time with any measure against the authors of the latter and I don't agree even now - that everybody should focus instead on his/her job to the benefit of the party, so that we can make it work and help it to be united, and that everybody should support the government in implementing the governing programme. Unfortunately, later on some recordings appeared from meetings chaired by Mr Adrian Tutuianu and I said: "I firmly condemn this method of recording the party's internal meetings, any party; however, those affirmations of Mr Tutuianu were the most upsetting for a large part of the party members," said Dragnea after the CExN of the PSD.

The Social Democrat leader also mentioned that he discussed for many hours on Sunday with most of the presidents and vice-presidents of the party's branches "and they were all very upset with the fact that after that CExN a part of our colleagues continued to act against the party."

"Today, very many colleagues reproached those statements to Mr. Tutuianu. Even if I disagree and firmly condemn the manner in which they did it there to record their own colleagues at the meeting, those affirmations remain. Mr Tutuianu, during today's meeting, said that he could apologize, if needed, but that he maintains his affirmations anyway. Our colleagues disagreed with this approach, for the serious things that happened there cannot just be deleted," said Dragnea.

He also showed what were the reasons behind Marian Neacsu's exclusion, one of which was that he no longer did his job at the party.

"After the CExN we all hoped, I the most, that after two-three days during which everybody will still be upset, which is natural, people will start doing their job again. Mr Neacsu should have effectively done his job as secretary general and act according to the statute. (...) Unfortunately, after that CExN, Mr Neacsu never showed up at the Kiseleff office again and never did anything related to his job. In exchange, many of our MPs and leaders of organisations continuously told us in the past week that they were invited to join a project - they did not understand very well what the project was. In the past couple of days there were certain persons representing the Opposition who talked about negotiations between Mr Neacsu and leaders of the Opposition, who were assured they will have enough votes from the PSD to pass the motion of censure against PSD-ALDE (the ruling coalition, ALDE - Alliance of Liberals and Democrats).

These were the reasons, also enumerated at the PSD leadership's meeting, which led to the exclusion of the two members, according to the PSD leader.

"I also heard that they will challenge this decision. It's their right to do it and it's natural to do it. In exchange, I hope that all the other colleagues will understand that our objectives remain the same and we will no longer provide topics for public debate that have nothing to do with the governing programme or with what the Romanians want," said Dragnea.
