The situation in the Republic of Moldova is "stable," and the authorities are doing their best to preserve it economically, politically and socially and to receive refugees from Ukraine, ambassador Victor Chirila said on Tuesday, at the end of a meeting with the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Marcel Ciolacu.
"The situation is stable, the authorities are doing everything possible to maintain economic, political and social stability, they have done everything possible to receive the flow of refugees coming from Ukraine. So, border points have been opened at Palanca and Otaci. The citizens of Ukraine are received both in private and in the reception points opened by the authorities. Yesterday, there were 36,000 Ukrainian citizens on the territory of the Republic of Moldova. We are doing everything in out power to help the citizens of Ukraine," the ambassador told the Parliament Palace, Agerpres.ro informs.
Asked what he thought were the economic consequences in the context of the conflict in Ukraine, Cyril said that "for the time being, the authorities have done everything possible to maintain economic stability."
"There are no major concerns. But, of course, we want an enhanced support from our strategic partners - Romania, the European Union, especially to ensure food security, as well as energy security. We also need important support in this regard. (...) We are doing our best not to get involved in this conflict, but to help the people of Ukraine with all we can. And we do our best for a peaceful dialogue. We have always chosen dialogue and negotiations to ensure peace in the region and stability," added Victor Chirila.
According to him, the Republic of Moldova needs equipment to better secure its borders.
