Timisoara city incumbent mayor Dominic Fritz, who is running for a new term with the backing of the United Right Alliance, declared upon leaving the polls that he voted to preserve the spirit of Timisoara.
"On this important day for Timisoara carrying on along its European path, a path of fairness and respect that lays focus on our future, education and health care, I voted with great confidence in the people of Timisoara, in the desire of the Timisoara residents to keep the spirit of the city alive and in the ability of the people of Timisoara to defend democracy.
Today's vote in Timisoara as well as throughout the country, is perhaps the most important ballot since the 1989 Revolution, and Romanians today not only express their political opinion, but also their support for democracy itself and for the country's European path," said Dominic Fritz.
