At its regular meeting on Wednesday, the Bulgarian Council of Ministers approved an agreement between the Danube River Exploration and Maintenance Executive Agency and Romania's Lower Danube River Administration in Galati on the joint launch of public procurement procedures under the FAST Danube 2 project, which aims to improve navigation conditions on the joint Bulgarian-Romanian stretch of the Danube River, news agency BTA reports.

The activities cover environmental monitoring, design, construction and construction supervision.

The FAST Danube 2 project, worth almost EUR 230 million (VAT excluded), was developed in partnership between Bulgaria and Romania and has been approved for financing under the Connecting Europe Facility. The Bulgarian side is to provide EUR 111,800,000, including grants of up to 85%. The engineering measures planned for the common section of the river will improve navigation conditions and traffic safety along the Danube.
