Romania has a bold investment plan until 2030, mainly 7 Gigawatts of energy from renewable sources, declared, on Tuesday, the Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja, at the fourth ministerial meeting regarding the Agreement between the Governments of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania and Hungary regarding the Strategic Partnership in the field of development and transport of green energy.

"We have representatives from Nuclearelectrica here and we consider nuclear energy as one without emissions, therefore green energy. They will also come from the massive potential of offshore wind energy and we are now in the process of finalizing the legislation and in public consultation, and in the fall we will have the legislation for these offshore wind capacities and of course we hope to use all these capacities for this important project as well (the submarine cable in the Black Sea, ed. n.) to transport energy from the Caspian Sea through the Black Sea and to the rest of Europe," Burduja said.

Officials from Romania, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Hungary met on Tuesday, in Bucharest, at the 4th ministerial meeting regarding the Agreement between the Governments of the four countries regarding the Strategic Partnership in the field of green energy development and transport.

The meeting will address the status of the ratification of the Agreement, the latest developments regarding the Memorandum of Understanding that envisages the establishment of a joint venture company between the governments of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania and Hungary, the revised terms of reference regarding the production of green energy, etc.

The agreement between the governments of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania and Hungary regarding the Strategic Partnership in the field of development and transport of green energy was signed on December 17, 2022. It is based on the interests of the four states related to the consolidation of national and regional energy security and connectivity in the Black Sea basin, the diversification of supply sources, the exploitation of the potential for the production of renewable energy in the Caspian region and the increasing of the share of renewable energy in the national energy mix, according to a press release from the Presidency.

The quadrilateral intergovernmental agreement will provide the financial and technical framework for the realization of the project of the submarine cable for the transport of electric energy from renewable sources between Romania and Azerbaijan, via Georgia and the Black Sea, and, subsequently, for the transport of this energy to Hungary and the rest of Europe, through the European transport system.

The submarine electricity transmission cable project through the Black Sea is part of the agreements in the field of energy agreed between the European Union, represented by the European Commission, and the Republic of Azerbaijan, which is, at the same time, a flagship project for Georgia, as part of the EU Global Gateway strategy.AGERPRES
