The National Institute of Public Health on Thursday said that between the beginning of the reporting period, June 2, and July 31, three cases of West Nile virus infection (two confirmed cases and one probable case) were reported in Romania.
The cases were recorded in the counties of Dolj (1), Vrancea (1) and Salaj (1).
Two of the cases were in people in the 60-69 age class and one in the over 80 age class.
In order to avoid infection, INSP recommends avoiding exposure to mosquitoes by wearing long-sleeved clothing and long pants; using mosquito-repellent chemicals; preventing insects from entering the house through protective nets on windows; draining any ponds around households, as well removing stale water containers and household garbage.
