Romania's Iordache wins gold medal at 2017 Summer Universiade

Romanian gymnast Larisa Iordache has won on Wednesday the gold medal in the floor event of the women's artistic gymnastics competition of the ongoing 2017 Summer Universiade in Taipei. Iordache scored 13.800 and outranked Japanese Asuka Teramoto, 13.766 and Russian Lilia Ahaimova, 13.533.

Larisa Iordache has already won three medals at the 2017 Summer Universiade in Taipei, one gold medal in all-around (on Tuesday), one bronze medal in the balance beam event and another one in the floor event (both won on Wednesday). Romania has so far four medals, all in artistic gymnastics, the other one won by Andrei Muntean in the men's vault event (on Wednesday). The 21-year-old Iordache has thus rounded up her impressive medal tally with a bronze medal (team event) and two silver medals (all-around and floor) in the 2012 Olympic Games; two bronze medals (all-around and floor) at the World championships, as well as five gold medals (two in team, two in floor and one in the beam event), five silver (two in the beam, all-around, vault and floor) and two bronzes (vault and beam) at the European championships.

Romania has sent a team of 121 people to the Universiade, including 91 athletes, competing in athletics, weightlifting, table tennis, men's volleyball, swimming, diving, men's basketball, men's waterloo, artistic gymnastics, fencing and judo. Romania ranked 29th in the 2015 Summer Universiade in Gwangju (South Korea), with 1 gold medal, 3 silver and 3 bronze medals.
