Romania will host the Cyclo-Cross Youth European Championships in 2026 and 2027, the Romanian Cycling Federation (FRC) announced on its Facebook page on Wednesday.
"After the successful organization of the 2024 European Mountain Bike Championships, Romania will host the Cyclo-Cross Youth European Championships in November 2026 and 2027!," the FRC message reads.
Vatra Dornei has received approval from the European Cycling Union (UEC) to host this prestigious competition. In 2024, the same city was the host of the first Balkan Cyclo-Cross Championships and the first-ever European Cup stage held in Romania.
The competition is dedicated to athletes aged 13 to 16 and aims to promote cycling among young people.
"By organizing major events, Romania strengthens its status as an attractive destination for international cycling competitions," the FRC pointed out.
"We are extremely happy and honored to continue bringing major cycling events to Romania, following the successful projects started in 2024 in collaboration with the UEC. Hosting the second European Championships, the 2026 & 2027 UEC Cyclo-Cross Youth Championships, is both a source of pride and a great responsibility for our country, which is committed to organizing major international events on a regular basis," said FRC President Catalin Sprinceana on the UEC website.
Sprinceana voiced gratitude to UEC President Enrico Della Casa for his trust in the Romanian Federation and in continuing this national project, as well as to the organizing club, "A Pedal Forward" Sports Club, and its president, Bogdan Brinza, the National Agency for Sports and its president, Bogdan Constantin Matei.
