At the 2027 Men's Rugby World Cup in Australia, Romania will play Georgia (October 3), Italy (October 11) and South Africa, the reigning world champions (October 17), according to the Romanian Rugby Federation (FRR), after the competition schedule was established by World Rugby.
Playing in Group B, Romania will start off with their eternal opponent Georgia, world number 13, in Townsville, after which it will meet Italy, world number 10, in Sydney and will end the series of group matches against the reigning world champion and world leader, South Africa, in Perth.
FRR Chairman Alin Petrache said that the sequence of the matches is less important, but he hopes that our players will give their all in each instance and make the fans proud: "At a competition of such magnitude, I don't know what relevance is who is our first or last opponent. Let's not forget that it is a unique format of the World Cup, which also gives the possibility to the teams from the 3rd place to climb to the next phase of the competition, the four best teams that finish in third place will go up to the round of 16, so the fight will be even closer. Much more important to us is our evolution, being 100% ready for every game, to give everything, to show beautiful rugby, to make our supporters proud. The 'Oaks' have always managed to win everyone's hearts at this competition, let's not forget here the historic comeback in the match against Canada, back then one of the fastest tries scored against Ireland, are moments that make the rugby world happy. We have to think that we still have two years until the start of the competition, and during this period we have to provide the team with all the conditions and preparation for the competition and our support."
