Romania's Under-19 and Under-15 women's teams won bronze medals on Monday at the ITTF World Youth Championships in Rades, Tunisia, according to the Romanian Table Tennis Federation, told Agerpres.
In the Under-19 women's team event, Romania defeated Singapore 3-1 in the quarter-finals, thanks to the points scored by Ioana Singeorzan, 3-0 (11-5, 11-8, 11-8) against Jingyi Zhoy and Elena Zaharia, 3-0 (11-8, 11-6, 11-5) against Zhao-Yun Tan and 3-1 (11-9, 9-11, 11-9, 11-6) against Jingyi Zhou. In another match, Camelia Mitrofan lost 0-3 (7-11, 8-11, 6-11) to Ser Lin Qian.
In the semi-finals, Romania lost to France 3-0. Singeorzan lost her match against Prithika Pavade - 0-3 (8-11, 8-11, 7-11), Zaharia lost to Charlotte Lutz - 1-3 (6-11, 11-9, 6-11, 9-11), and Andrea Teglas lost to Agathe Avezou - 2-3 (11-9, 7-11, 9-11, 12-10, 6-11).
In the Under-15 women's team event, Romania was defeated by China in the semi-finals, after a 3-0 win over Tunisia in the quarter-finals.
Alesia Sferlea lost to Yutong Yan - 0-3 (7-11, 6-11, 5-11), Bianca Mei-Rosu lost to Junlin Xiang - 2-3 (5-11, 5 -11, 11-9, 11-8, 4-11), and Singeorzan to Yuxin Gao with 1-3 (2-11, 13-11, 5-11, 5-11).
The Romanian Under-19 men's team failed to advance past the quarter-finals, and Romania did not compete in the Under-15 men's team event.
Romania has lined up 13 players in the two age categories (U15, U19), individual and in team events.
