Over 130 gendarmes have been deployed in the area affected by the explosion in a block of flats in District 5 of the capital to support the authorities' intervention, the press office of the Romanian Gendarmerie reports.
"The gendarmes are ensuring the perimeter is secured, assisting the firefighters' intervention procedures, and providing support measures for DSU and IGSU specialists. The forces involved are acting to protect the population and facilitate access for emergency teams to the affected area to manage the situation quickly and efficiently," the cited source shows.
The Gendarmerie has urged citizens to avoid approaching the explosion perimeter, to follow the authorities' instructions, not to attempt to intervene independently, and not to obstruct emergency teams.
The Gendarmerie further conveyed that the population should follow official communications for updated information and additional instructions.
