Eduard Stefan, an 11-year-old pupil from Caracal won the gold medal at the "Copernicus" International Mathematics Olympiad in the US. The pupil told AGERPRES on Monday about his participation in the competition, the emotions he experienced in New York and the "indescribable" joy of ranking first.
"My experience in the United States, in New York, was truly memorable and full of deep emotions. A moment that touched me deeply was during the ceremony when the Romanian national anthem was performed. The entire hall stood and applauded me. I felt profoundly honored, proud to be Romanian and grateful for this unique moment. When I learned I had secured first place with the highest score, I felt an indescribable joy. It was an explosion of emotions, amazement, pride and gratitude. Knowing that I brought Romania to first place in such an important international competition was a fulfillment and an honorable responsibility," Eduard Stefan said, agerpres reports.
He described the atmosphere in New York as "electrifying," where he had the chance to meet passionate young people and underscored that no matter where he goes in the world, Romania is always in his heart.
Passionate about knowledge and learning, Eduard Stefan mentioned that, in order to keep himself entertained in airports and during his flight, he read "Eastern Europe" by Tomek Jankowski.
At the end of the week, Eduard will attend the "Viitori Olimpici" (Future Olympiad competitors) camp and "Gazeta Matematica" (Mathematical Gazette) competition, organized by the Romanian Society of Mathematical Sciences, where he will compete in the final round which includes written and oral tests.
Last week, Eduard Stefan won first place at the Global Round of the "Copernicus" Mathematics Olympiad, which was held in New York.
