Romanians spend 250 million euros yearly on coffee, juice or snacks from vending machines, shows a statistical report published on Monday by a manufacturer of electronic devices, according to AGERPRES.
"There are currently 120,000 vending machines in Romania, and in large cities 70 percent of the payments for such dispenser products are made with cash. In small towns, villages and communes, cash payments account for an overwhelming 85 percent. In times of pandemic, shifting from cash to card payments is absolutely necessary and normal as a hygienic, safe and taxable method," says Adrian Dinu, founder of software company Creasoft IT.
He says that Romanians spend 250 million euros annually on vending machine products, and Tchibo, Nestle, Strauss, Dallmayer, Nova Prompt, O'Fresh, Dair, IPC Vending and Nordexim are among the largest operators in this industry.
"Before the pandemic, the best locations for vending machines were considered to be those in office building areas, followed by medical clinics, factories, warehouses, building sites, convenience stores or supermarkets. However, since February 2020 the crisis has severely hit the vending industry and office buildings areas have now areas to avoid, says Adrian Dinu. This year vending operators started pulling out of posh office premises in favor of convenience stores, which are frequented by teleworkers," shows a release.
According to the cited source, the average price receipt for vending machine transactions is two lei for coffee/hot drinks, and around 7 lei per transaction for snacks or other products. Hot drinks (coffee), snacks, sandwiches and soft drinks are among the best-selling products from vending machines and, more recently, toys and car wash self-services are also available through vending machines, but there isn't yet an estimate of the proceeds from such sales.
