If we want a secure Europe, the Eastern Flank must be strong. That was the message conveyed by the Minister of Defense, Ionut Mosteanu, at the Warsaw Security Forum.
During the panel "Peace through strength: What is Europe's Hard Power?", the ministers of defense of Romania, Poland and Norway discussed with the Deputy Secretary General of NATO and industry partners how to respond more effectively to Russian challenges and how to facilitate investments in the defense industry, "which not only bring more security, but also jobs and contribute to economic development".
"In the face of increasingly frequent Russian incursions with drones and aircraft into European airspace, my message was simple: The Eastern Flank must be strengthened, from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea. NATO and the European Union must work together, with complementary initiatives, to guarantee the security of the entire Euro-Atlantic space," Mosteanu said in a post on his Facebook page.
The defense minister had a bilateral discussion with his Polish counterpart. "We share the same security challenges, and our cooperation becomes even stronger when we double it with concrete projects for military mobility and for the development of the defense industry," Mosteanu wrote on his social media page.
Also on Monday, Ionut Mosteanu met with Marc Perestrello, president of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
"We discussed how we can strengthen the link between governments and parliaments within the Alliance and how we can work together to make Romania and the entire region safer. We reiterated our firm support for Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova. Sunday's elections in Chisinau showed that Moldovans want a European future, and we have a duty to support them on this path. We are constantly working, every day, to make Romania safer and stronger," the Romanian minister of defense said.
