Senate President, Liberal leader Florin Citu stated on Wednesday that the draft law on national security and defense will reach Parliament next week, mentioning that the normative act will not bring amendments to the Constitution, but includes "amendments needed in the next period", such as allowing foreign troops to come to Romania.

"There were only initial discussions. We hope that the draft will be adopted next week. The bill has been in the CSAT [the Supreme Council of National Defense], it is a bill having already been discussed, now it is coming to the Romanian Parliament and for now the party experts are looking at it, to see if there is anything else to add, then it should be adopted in the government meeting. (...) It is more about these amendments so that Romania may allow foreign troops to come on the Romanian territory, there are more amendments that we need in the next period," Citu explained.

Asked about the dissatisfaction with this bill, according to which the CSAT would receive increased powers, Citu said that this bill does not change the Constitution, and Parliament has the last word in emergency situations.

As regards the inclusion of some provisions regarding the enlisting of young people, the Liberal leader specified that the bill was not discussed in the coalition.

The Minister of National Defense, Vasile Dincu, declared on Tuesday, for AGERPRES, that the draft law having emerged in the public space regarding the crisis situation and the preparation of a general reserve in case of war, which should include Romanian men between the ages of 18 and 60 years is not current and that the ministry he leads will announce the public opinion about its legislative drafts.
