In the current security context, it is important that the state IT&C infrastructure be safe and resilient, said the interim president of the Senate, Alina Gorghiu, on Tuesday, at the ceremony dedicated to the Special Telecommunications Service Day and the 30th activity anniversary in the area of state communications and information technology, told Agerpres.
Gorghiu said that it is a vital institution in ensuring special telecommunications and secure IT services, for the authorities and institutions of the Romanian state, but also for the national defense system, public order and national security.
"In the current security context, with many threats, the war on Romania's borders, but also cyber threats in virtual space, we all realise, more than ever, how important this state IT&C infrastructure is and how important it is that for it to be safe and resilient. On behalf of the Romanian Senate, I thank this institution for providing us, over time, with electronic signatures, for the videoconference system and, if we refer to the period of the coronavirus pandemic, for ensuring secure electronic voting remotely. These are just some of the services that we benefit from, along with the provision of internet and e-mails, telephone services, hosting of IT systems, with associated security measures," Alina Gorghiu said.
The interim president of the Senate expressed her confidence that STS will successfully fulfill its mission in the development of Romania's Private Government Cloud, a major project of a strategic importance in the efficiency of the state's activities, which will bring digitisation and reduce bureaucracy for public authorities and which, finally, will improve citizens' interaction with the state.
"We see that the Internet and telecommunications provided by STS facilitate communication and cooperation among state institutions, but also represent a healthy bridge between citizens and institutions or the private environment," said Alina Gorghiu, who conveyed the Senate's support for the development and modernisation of the institution through a legislation always adapted to its needs.
