Chairman of the Romanian Senate Mircea Abrudean said on Monday that to Romania, joining the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is the most important strategic objective after its integration with NATO and the European Union, inform Agerpres.
OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann visited the Senate on Monday to assess the latest developments in Romania's accession to the OECD.
"Our political commitment at the level of Parliament towards the objective of accession in the first half of 2026 is very clear and the visit of the Secretary General Cormann's statement shows strong support for Romania's candidacy. To Romania, accession to the OECD is its most important strategic objective after its integration with NATO and the European Union, and the Romanian Senate reaffirms its full commitment to achieving this goal," Senate Chairman Mircea Abrudean is quoted as saying in a press atetement released on Monday
Romania has so far got 15 formal opinions of the specialised committees out of the 25 existing at OECD level, which marks a significant progress on the path of integration. Parliament reaffirms its full support for following the schedule aiming at accession in the first half of 2026.
Moving forward, Parliament will analyse and discuss the latest legislative changes resulting from the OECD recommendations. The Romanian Senate aims to ensure a transparent and responsible debate, which will allow fast-tracking the necessary bills.
