The space industry is a fast-growing strategic field, and Romania must capitalize on the human resource, which has propelled it in the past on the map of trailblazers in this field, presidential adviser Diana-Loreta Paun said on Monday at the European SpaceFEST 2024 Summit.
Paun added that the space industry is also a field with multiple educational, economic, military, scientific implications.
In his turn, the rector of the Politehnica University of Bucharest, Mihnea Costoiu, stressed that Romania has the capacity to offer products and services for the aerospace industry.
"We have the capacity to produce - and we do it in the country and in institutes and universities and quite a few companies - products and services for the space industry and we have the strength to put on the decision-making table these technologies and services that can be developed horizontally. And, why not, (...) we supported very strongly the relaunch of a Romanian space program to bring back, to put us in the situation of having an astronaut in space in the coming years," Mihnea Costoiu added.
"We must note somewhat with joy that the development of the space industry in Romania has been a great event in the last 10 years. This must probably be linked (...) also because of the relationship we have built with the European Space Agency and with the Space Agency in the United States. We are still very open to collaborate in this field, because we realize that such collaboration implies long-term development of other industrial branches, because, little by little, advances that occur in the space area are easily transferred to other industrial branches, and this is beneficial for us," the secretary of state in the Ministry of Research, Tudor Prisecaru, said.
The European SpaceFEST 2024 works take place on Monday, at the Palace of Parliament, the invited specialists analyzing topics such as aerospace education and interdisciplinary research, health and safety in space, space ecosystem and sustainability, innovation and technological advance in the space industry, space activity in Romania.
