Foreign Affairs Ministry's state secretary for strategic affairs Daniel Ionita met on Wednesday a delegation of students of Pakistan's National Defence University, to whom he presented the priorities of Romania's foreign policy, focusing on Romania's NATO and EU membership, on the Strategic Partnership with the United States, and on the "special relations" with neighbouring states, the ministry (MAE) informed in a release to Agerpres.

According to this document, Ionita reviewed Romania's priorities in NATO, namely the consolidation of the collective defence, the development of the trans-Atlantic relations, the cooperation between NATO and the EU and with the partners states, and the adaptation to challenges in the vicinity of the Euro-Atlantic space. He also mentioned the challenges faced by the EU, especially on its eastern neighbourhood. "During his presentation, state secretary Daniel Ionita highlighted Romania's principle approach to the consolidation of stability in the region, in accordance with the provisions of the 2015-2019 National Strategy for the Country Defence. The presentation was followed by interactive talks; students were especially interested in migration matters and in Romania's relations with the Central Asian states," the release reads.

The MAE stated that the delegation of the National Defence University of Pakistan comprises high-ranking officers of Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, who undergo a strategic training programme of Romania's 'Carol I' National Defence University from April 24 to 29.
