Romania's women national team qualified on Thursday for the quarterfinals of the European Table Tennis Team Championships in Zadar (Croatia).
The women's team, silver medalist at the last edition, had a hard time defeating Serbia, with a score of 3-2, in the round of 16.
Bernadette Szocs brought two points to the tricolors, after scoring 3-1 (6-11, 11-4, 11-4, 11-8) with Aneta Maksuti and 3-0 (11-9, 13-11, 11-9) with Sabina Surjan, Romania's victory being sealed by Andreea Dragoman, who defeated, 3-2 (11-8, 8-11, 11-4, 10-12, 11-6), Aneta Maksuti.
In the other matches, Andreea Dragoman lost to Sabina Surjan, 2-3 (11-5, 5-11, 11-7, 6-11, 10-12), and Elizabeta Samara lost to Izabela Lupulesku, 2-3 (13-11, 8-11, 11-5, 11-13, 5-11).
On Friday, in the quarterfinals, Romania will face Slovakia.
In the men's round, Romania passed Serbia, 3-0. Iulian Chirita defeated Dimitrije Levajac 3-0 (11-6, 11-9, 11-8), Eduard Ionescu defeated Zsolt Peto 3-1 (11-6, 11-3, 8-11, 11-9), and Ovidiu Ionescu defeated Nemanja Dilas 3-1 (11-4, 8-11, 11-5, 11-8).
On Friday, in the quarterfinals, Romania will meet the Swedish team.
The Romanian women's team won silver at the last edition and is the leader in the European ranking in June.
The men's team ranks 6th in the European ranking in June, and in the last edition it stopped in the round of 16.
