Romanian tennis player Irina Maria Bara qualified for the quarterfinals of the ITF tournament in Valencia, equipped with total prizes worth 80,000 dollars, on Thursday, after dispatching Andreea Gamiz (Venezuela), with 6-5, 7-5.
Bara (26 years old, 118 WTA), the fifth favorite, achieved victory after an hour and 42 minutes.
The Romanian player led by 5-1 during the first set, but Gamiz (28 years old, 399 WTA), approached with 5-4, Bara winning with 6-4. During the second act, the South-American player led by 5-2, but Irina Bara managed to turn the tide of the set and impose with 7-5, after five consecutive games.
Bara also defeated Gamiz in 2013, during the ITF tournament in Mamaia, with 7-6 (2), 6-4, during the first tour.
During the first tour in Valencia, Bara dispartched Spanish player Leyre Romero Gormaz (19 years old, 561 WTA), with 2-6, 7-6 (3), 6-2, Agerpres.ro confirms.
Bara will face off for a place in the semifinals with the winner between Viktoria Tomova (Bulgaria), fourth favorite, and Ane Mintegi Del Olmo (Spain).
