The Founder of The Institute, Andrei Bortun, declared on Thursday that the purpose of the "New European Bauhaus" project is to discover urban spaces where energy is created that gives birth to artistic talents.

He talked alongside the Head of the Representation of the European Commission in Romania, Ramona Chiriac, during a press conference that marks the start of the "New European Bauhaus" project.

Combinatul Fondului Plastic is also part of this project, which "goes from the observation that Bucharest does not yet know how to have large spaces, correct infrastructure, capable to know how to host the talent," Bortun pointed out, Agerpres.ro informs.

"Let us better understand, we, the people of Bucharest, we, the Romanian people, or we, the Europeans, where from is there often times a Romanian talent in music, in contemporary art or in digital industries or Romanian cinema, where we have wonderful ambassadors, but at some point it is interesting to also find out which are those places that generate this type of energy. (..) Bucharest does not really have an infrastructure of this type, which is why there is this project: Combinat", Andrei Bortun said.

In turn, Ramona Chiriac quoted the Head of the European Commission, who said that the "New European Bauhaus" is actually "Green Deal's European soul".

Created around the concept of local creativity, sustainability and community, the "New European Bauhaus" is a strategic initiative of the European Commission, a trans-disciplinary project.

Throughout the year 2022, the Representation of the European Commission in Romania and The Institute will carry out a complex program of events, whose purpose is also identifying organizations and local creative communities that generate change through innovation. An exhibition concept will be developed during Romanian Design Week, which in this context would be a "laboratory of testing scenarios about a more equitable future," the organizers say. Furthermore, a map of projects and spaces that share the values of the new "European Bauhaus" will be created.
