Minister of the Environment Tanczos Barna conveyed a message on Tuesday, on the Day of the Hungarians Everywhere, about the importance of peace, in the context of the war in Ukraine.

Present at the events organized in Miercurea Ciuc on the occasion of March 15, the Day of the Hungarians Everywhere, Tanczos Barna pointed out that peace is essential for the freedom of individuals and communities, and that war must be condemned and stopped immediately.

"Jokai, one of the most famous Hungarian writers [Jokai Mor - ed.n.] said in 1848, 'Let there be peace, let there be freedom, let there be consensus!' This is also the message I have conveyed today: there must be peace, there must be freedom and consensus, because there is no peace without freedom and there can be no freedom without peace. Peace is the period in which we can develop as citizens, we can develop as a community and it is essential for individual freedom and the freedom of the community. We need those times of calm, of peace, of building that have brought forth all the nations of this world. The war must be condemned and it must be stopped immediately. We cannot carelessly witness the tragedy of individuals and communities that become millions of migrants in just two weeks. Everyone, and especially the leaders of the great powers, must understand that in the 21st century, problems can no longer be solved through war, but only through peace, only through freedom, and only through consensus," said Tanczos Barna.

Thousands of ethnic Hungarians from Harghita participated, on Tuesday, in events dedicated to March 15, which were organized mainly in the localities mainly inhabited by members of this community.

Just as every year, at Miercurea Ciuc, the events began at the statue of the 1848 revolutionary, Gál Sándor, with the singing of the national anthems of Romania and Hungary, followed by a short poetic moment and wreath-laying.

Those present then marched to the City Citadel Square, where an artistic program was presented, and mayor Korodi Attila, and Minister of Environment Tanczos Barna addressed those present.

The Consul General of Hungary in Miercurea Ciuc, Toth Laszlo, also conveyed a message to the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, on March 15.

Wreaths were laid at the statues of revolutionaries Petofi Sandor and Nicolae Balcescu, and the building of the Szekler Museum of Ciuc was illuminated in the colors of the Hungarian flag.

The event was also attended by the Minister of Sports, Eduard Novak, as well as the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) MEP, Vincze Lorant.

It is the first time in the last two years that events dedicated to the Day of Hungarians Everywhere have taken place without restrictions, in 2020 and 2021 these having been held in a restricted setting due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
