Trade unionists at the Baita Mine were on warning strike for two hours on Tuesday, and said to start a collective labour conflict, because the employer refuses to negotiate the collective labour contract and has arrears in the payment of wages for at least two months, and warns that other protest actions or even a general strike could follow, the trade union informs in a press release.

According to a press release from the Mina Baita trade union, which represents the employer Vast Baita Plai, the warning strike took place between 08:00 and 10:00.

The trade unionists point out that, by negotiating the collective labour agreement, the union is not asking for "big wage increases," but for a return to normality and legality with regard to the granting of legal rights to workers working underground, the creation of optimal working conditions to ensure safety at the workplace, and guarantees regarding the timely payment of wages.

They draw attention to the fact that Baita is a polymetallic mine, which exploits copper, silver, molybdenum and bismuth as well as uranium. However, the radioactivity of the galleries is much higher than in other uranium mines, and the radon concentration is estimated to be 12 times higher than the usual concentration in a uranium mine, these being the working conditions in which the workers carry out their work, for which they are not even paid on time, according to the obligations assumed by the employer in the individual labour contracts.
