Romania's National Gas Transmission Company Transgaz and Republic of Serbia's JP Srbijagas on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding that outlines the framework and basic principles for the coordination of the activities to be carried out between the two companies, informs Agerpres.
According to a press release sent to the Bucharest Stock Exchange, the memorandum was signed by the general managers of the two companies: Ion Sterian on behalf of Transgaz and Dusan Bajatovic on behalf of JP Srbijagas.
On the sidelines of this meeting, the heads of the two companies agreed that they will jointly prepare and present in September this year, a joint plan for the implementation of the "Interconnection of the National Gas Transmission System in Romania with the National Gas Transmission System in the Republic of Serbia," which involves the construction of a new natural gas transmission pipeline that will ensure the connection between the main natural gas transmission pipeline "BRUA" and the Technological Node Mokrin in Serbia, and the construction of the Mokrin-PCG Banatski Dvor-Pancevo-Belgrade southern gas pipeline.
"The construction of the Romania-Serbia interconnection is of major strategic importance to both countries, especially in the current energy context, given the need to diversify supply sources, increase security of natural gas supply, balance demand and supply and facilitate cross-border operations in the field of natural gas transmission between EU member states and non-members and third countries. The memorandum of understanding signed between SNTGN Transgaz SA and JP Srbijagas outlines the framework and basic principles for the coordination of the activities that will be carried out between the two companies," the release reads.
