The chairman of the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR), Kelemen Hunor, said on Friday, after Ilie Bolojan was appointed prime minister, that the Union is prepared to continue negotiations and demands "a voice and influence" in the new government, noting the importance of UDMR's competence, professional experience, and balance in difficult times, informs Agerpres.

"The success of a multi-party government coalition depends on the ability to find common ground and the guarantee that each partner has a say in the decision-making process. Today, the president of Romania nominated Mr. Ilie Bolojan as prime minister-designate. From now on, his task is clear: to form a coherent and functional majority. I know that the four parties that have recently worked together on a common government program and sought solutions to correct the budget deficit all have a single goal: to make the burden of the hardships that lie ahead as easy as possible for citizens and for the country," Kelemen Hunor wrote on Facebook.

He added that the UDMR is prepared to continue negotiations.

"We are prepared to continue negotiations and remain consistent with what we have advocated so far: we demand a voice and influence in the new government. Because in difficult times, UDMR's competence, professional experience, and balance matter," said the UDMR leader, who went on to say that "when we talk about reducing the deficit, we must start first with the state so that the austerity measures affect people as little as possible".

On Friday, President Nicusor Dan appointed Ilie Bolojan, interim leader of the National Liberal Party (PNL), as prime minister.
