The Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) will decide on the day of the vote whether or not to support the motion of censure against the government tabled by the Social Democratic Party (PSD), UDMR national leader Kelemen Hunor told Adevarul Live webcast on Tuesday.
He said that he did not negotiate with PSD over support of the motion and did not have discussions with the National Liberal Party (PNL) either, adding that however UDMR has "1,000 reasons" to overthrow the government.
"We knew of the PSD's intention to table the motion of censure; I spoke with [PSD leader] Marcel Ciolacu somewhere in July and I said that we will not sign the motion of censure, but there were no other discussions to support the motion of censure, as there was no discussion with PNL either. I had a phone conversation last week with Prime Minister Orban, we will probably meet at some point, as I will meet Ciolacu and another leader, there is no problem, that is the way it is in politics," said Kelmen.
He added that UDMR would make an "extremely rational" decision to vote on the censure motion because it did not want to be a "collateral victim" of a political war that did not belong to it.
According to him, there are three scenarios that could be considered if the motion of censure passes, but the best solution would be to form a coalition backed by a majority in Parliament. However, Kelemen added that he does not see a political leader who, at this moment, would think about such a thing and initiate a discussion that would prepare Romania for the years to come.
