Chairman of the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) Kelemen Hunor said on Friday, at the inauguration of a nursery in the Cluj locality of Baciu, that Romania has a major demographic problem and that public policies to support young families must be implemented.

"If we do not try to devise and apply public policies aimed at supporting young families, there is no way we can halt, stop or possibly reverse this negative trend in the medium and long term. That is why, in 2020, we insisted on launching this programme to build nurseries in Romania, because we found that, not only in cities, Romania did not have nurseries. We need nurseries because when a family takes on the responsibility of raising a child, it needs nurseries, kindergartens and schools, because at some point parents return to work and there must be a place where the child can be left safely. This is what I also want as a parent," Kelemen Hunor said.

The inauguration of the nursery was also attended by Minister of Development, Public Works and Administration Cseke Attila, who said that the nursery in Baciu was financed through the National Investment Company, with 11.4 million lei and that it is the fourth unit inaugurated in Cluj county under the "Sfanta Ana" government programme for building nurseries.
