Ukrainian-Romanian conversation guide to be distributed free of charge to Ukraine refugees

As many as 13,000 copies of a Ukrainian-Romanian conversation guide have been printed by Monitorul Oficial to be distributed free of charge in refugee centres and other places to facilitate communication and integration of Ukraine refugees in Romania, senator Robert Cazanciuc of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) announced on Wednesday.

"It is a Ukrainian-Romanian conversation guide. For the first time such a guide is printed in Romania after 1989. There is only one, printed in Chisinau a few years ago. The occasion is not a very happy one, as it is caused by the war, by the fact that too many people have had to leave their homes and chosen to live in peace in Romania until the war is over and they can return home. I would like to thank Monitorul Oficial who responded to our request quickly and printed this Ukrainian-Romanian guide. It is intended, first of all, for those who live temporarily in Romania and there are tens of thousands of people who have chosen to live temporarily, in order to facilitate their integration and better relationship with the Romanian citizens," Cazanciuc told a joint news conference with Minister of Culture Lucian Romascanu at the Parliament House.

He said that the print run is 13,000 copies, but there is a request from a private company to increase the total by another 10,000 copies, Agerpres.ro informs.

"Monitorul Oficial had found a centre for Slavic languages in Prague, which is making other guides for Poland and Slovakia related to Ukraine refugees. The guide was ready in one month's time. It has three parts: the first part is a conversation guide and the other two parts a small Romanian - Ukrainian and Ukrainian - Romanian dictionary. I hope it will be extremely useful and appreciated," added Cazanciuc.

The guide will be distributed free of charge in the refugee centres in Braila, Galati, Sighetu Marmatiei, in Bucharest City and the counties on the eastern border of Romania.

"It is an initiative of the PSD senators, joined by Senator Daniel Fenechiu, the Union of Romanian Bars, which is the beneficiary of an important print run," said Cazanciuc.

Culture Minister Romascanu said that the printing of this guide is a very important event.

"No such guide has been published before. (...) I also want to congratulate Senator Daniel Fenechiu on joining this initiative. It is an impeccable achievement. We want it to be, in a short time, only a reminder of the reason that led to this guide and for it to remain an important tool to be used in tourist activities, because we all want this unwarranted, unfair war to end," Romascanu said.
