The energy consumption is, at this time, over 8,200 MW and it is important that it should be covered as much as possible from its own production, according to the Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja.

He emphasized that the production in coal-fired power plants exceeds 1,250 MW.

"These days we have been looking for all possible solutions to increase the production of electricity, given we have high levels of consumption. At this time, the consumption is over 8,200 MW. And it is important to cover as much of this consumption as possible from own production in order not to call for larger imports. A special thought for the wonderful people from the Oltenia Energy Complex (CEO). We currently exceed 1,250 MW of production in the coal-fired power plants. Under particularly difficult conditions, with a lot of old equipment, at hot temperatures, the specialist teams always found solutions. They restarted the groups, they solved the breakdowns in record time, they worked overtime to give Romania energy. At CEO, we have four groups in operation, tomorrow we will have five (two in Turceni, two in Rovinari, one in Isalnita). I have also been to Gorj and in Valea Jiului. I have seen the conditions under which they work day and night. For me, they and all those from the Romanian energy sector, from production, transport and distribution, from the National Energy Dispatch - Transelectrica and many others are the heroes of these days", Burduja wrote on Thursday evening on his Facebook account.

The minister of energy conveyed that everything possible will be done to extend the operating terms of coal-fired power plants, a process started in Brussels since last year.

"These days, coal has been of great help to us again and we must say it frankly. For the energy security of Romanians, we will do everything possible to extend the deadlines for the operation of coal-fired power plants and the continuation of mining operations. We have started already this approach in Brussels since last year, with honesty and responsibility, and we will continue it, with all the arguments on the table. Romania's energy security is not negotiable," Sebastian Burduja pointed out.

According to Transelectrica data, on Thursday, at 21:30, hydro production represented 41.84% of the total electricity production, hydrocarbons-based - 18.64%, coal-based - 17.85%, nuclear - 17.85%, wind 2. 7%, biomass - 0.71% and storage facilities - 0.42%.
