In 18 years of activity in Romania, low-cost airline Wizz Air has carried one hundred million passengers, more than five times Romania's population, the airline announced on Monday.
Currently, the company operates seven bases nationwide and services more than 173 routes from 13 airports in Romania, connecting passengers to 71 destinations in 22 countries.
"Wizz Air, the most sustainable airline in EMEA, is celebrating its biggest milestone yet, having so far proudly carried 100 million passengers from Romania, one of its core markets," the company said in a release on Monday.
Airline representatives mention that a new base will open this year at Bucharest-Baneasa, flying one aircraft and seven routes that will be commissioned during the year, it will allocate the 20th aircraft and start operating three new routes from the Bucharest-Otopeni base, it will allocate the second aircraft and introduce new and relaunched routes from Craiova and Sibiu, while also launching two new routes from Cluj-Napoca.
Wizz Air operates a fleet of 230 Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft and is listed on the London Stock Exchange. In 2024, Wizz Air was the preferred choice of 62.8 million passengers.
