Most young people surveyed by the Sibiu County Council (CJ) claim that they recognize fake news when they see it on social networks, but prefer not to react in any way, to ignore it, this is the conclusion of a survey conducted by the county administration among over 90 young people, according to an announcement made on the institution's Facebook page.
"Over 90 young people from Sibiu County responded to the questionnaire dedicated to the phenomenon of information manipulation. The results show one thing clearly: awareness exists, but the reaction is still passive. (...) When they see a manipulative news item, most choose to ignore it or just check it in other sources, without reporting it. This shows that the problem is not lack of awareness, but lack of reaction. The conclusion? Young people recognize manipulation, but do not always know how to combat it. Therefore, media education and critical thinking must be developed through examples, not through theory," says the Sibiu County Council.
According to the cited source, most of the young people surveyed in Sibiu "get information daily from social networks, especially Instagram and TikTok, and say that they can 'easily' tell when a piece of news is fake."
"The most common signs of manipulation encountered online remain: shocking or exaggerated headlines, images taken out of context, lack of a clear source, messages that provoke negative emotions (anger, fear, hatred)," emphasize those from Sibiu County Council.
