President Iohannis: It's good to remove several fees; discussions to be carried on the radio-tv fee

klaus iohannis

President Klaus Iohannis stated on Wednesday that the law regarding the removal of the 102 fees and duties is under his analysis, pointing out that is good to eliminate several fees and duties, but in regards to the radio-television fee the president stated that the matter should be better discussed.

He announced that he will organize a debate on 15 November regarding the radio-television fee. "The law is being analyzed and I believe that we must discuss about it more in detail. Basically it's better to get rid of some fees, it's a thing that I have also stated, namely that we simply have too much taxes. But from here up to having an ultra-urgent proceeding, which doesn't allow any public discussion, or any serious evaluation it's a long way. We could talk about increasing the taxes and probably solutions would be found in order to remove some of them. Two fees were left, which in my opinion must be thoroughly discussed. I'm referring to the radio and television fees," the head of state said.

Iohannis stated that in the last couple of days he received many requests- from the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), from the media unions, from the professional associations- through which he has been requested to not promulgate this law. The head of state mentioned that he will offer an answer on 15 November in the matter of the law regarding the 102 fees and taxes. "I will give an answer to this matter when time will come, I believe that on 15 November, and until then I want to organize at least one public debate with the people in the area, with media managers, with people of the civil society, in order to discuss together so we could find out: if it's better to keep the radio-television fee or to eliminate it," President Iohannis added.
