Romania strongly supports Chisinau's request to join this cooperation format, which aims, among other things, to identify concrete ways to engage the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine in projects aimed at increasing the degree of interconnectivity in the fields of energy, transport and digital in the region, prime minister Marcel Ciolacu declared Wednesday at the meeting with the president of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, who is visiting Bucharest to participate in the Summit of the Three Seas Initiative.

According to a press release sent by the Government, the two officials assessed the state of bilateral relations and appreciated the "excellent" level of cooperation. They also showed full openness to continuing the dialogue, agerpres reports.

The prime minister mentioned that Romania recently transferred the first tranche, in the amount of 10 million euros, for the financing of some priority projects, based on the agreement regarding the implementation of the non-refundable technical and financial assistance program in the amount of 100 million euros. The funds from this first tranche were directed to the purchase of minibuses for school transport and to infrastructure and local development projects (water supply, sewage, etc.).

"President Maia Sandu thanked Romania for the support given to the Republic of Moldova bilaterally and in the current security context, caused by Russia's aggression against Ukraine, and highlighted the importance of continuing cooperation, especially in the energy sector, in view of the approach of the cold season. The Romanian gov't head reaffirmed the political and technical support for the integration of the Republic of Moldova into the European Union, showing that it is a priority at this moment to obtain the decision regarding the opening of accession negotiations, within the European Council in December," the Government informs.
