On the rivers in Muntenia, targeted by a hydrological code red warning, the caution levels are not exceeded, but flash floods can especially affect small watercourses, with possible significant local effects, the National Administration of Romanian Waters (ANAR) announced on Friday, in a post published on its Facebook page.
"General mobilization of Romanian Waters teams - Code red on the rivers in Muntenia, until tomorrow, October 4, at 12:00. The rivers in Muntenia are still under hydrological code red, as a result of forecasts indicating precipitation of over 100 l/sq m in the next 24 hours. Flash floods may especially affect small watercourses, with possible significant local effects," the institution notes.
According to the cited source, at this moment, the attention quotas are not exceeded.
"The surplus water from heavy rains is absorbed by the soil and the major riverbeds. At this time, all watercourses under hydrological codes are being carefully monitored. Hydrometer workers are in the field day and night and collect the recorded levels with high frequency and retransmit them to the Dispatch Centers," the press release reads.
The mobilization of Romanian Waters teams includes over 500 employees from Romanian Waters Olt, Romanian Waters Jiu and Romanian Waters Arges-Vedea, 75 pieces of equipment prepared for interventions and 20,000 sandbags are prepared for the consolidation of the dams, claim ANAR representatives.
"The reservoirs managed by Apel Romane and Hidroelectrica were prepared to take over the surplus water and mitigate the flood waves. At the dispatch level, a permanent information flow is ensured - warnings issued by the National Institute of Hydrology and Water Management are immediately transmitted to the IGSU - General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, Romania, which forwards them to local authorities", specifies the cited source.
The population is advised to avoid traveling and activities near watercourses, not to cross rivers through fords or improvised bridges, and to clean ditches and drainage ditches.
On the other hand, local authorities must quickly transmit warnings, ensure that they reach the population and support the Romanian Waters teams in protecting the defense works.
"The Romanian Waters teams are on alert and on maximum vigilance. We are mobilized 24 hours a day to intervene quickly and efficiently, so as to protect communities exposed to the risks generated by extreme hydrological phenomena. The hydrometeorological situation is constantly monitored. We will return with updates as the conditions on the ground evolve," said Florin Ghita, general director of the "Romanian Waters" National Administration, in the aforementioned post
