Average annual job vacancies in Romania fall to 35,900 in 2024 (statistics)

Average annual job vacancies in Romania nationwide in 2024 was 35,900, down 4,000 from the previous year, while their average annual rate was 0.70%, down 0.08 percentage points, according to data published on Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

According to official statistics, last year, the highest average annual rates of job vacancies were reported in production and supply of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning (1.56%), entertainment, culture and recreation (1.44%) and public administration (1.36%).

At the same time, the manufacturing industry accounted for more than a fifth of the average annual number of vacancies (7,600), and the rate had an average annual value of 0.70%.

At the same time, the public sector held almost 24% of the average annual job vacancies, most of them in public administration (3,700), healthcare and social assistance (3,300) and education (1,500).

At the opposite pole, with the lowest values of the average annual job vacancies, were mining and quarrying (0.21%), other service activities (0.26%) and real estate transactions (0.32%).

As against 2023, the most significant decreases in 2024 in the average annual vacancy rate were found in real estate transactions (-0.53%), financial intermediation and insurance (-0.37%), and information and communications (-0.27%).

As far as the average annual job vacancies are concerned, the most relevant decreases were seen in the manufacturing industry (-2,400), information and communications and wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (-600 each).

On the other hand, increases in the average annual vacancy rate were recorded in production and supply of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning (+0.17%), as well as in constructions and entertainment, culture and recreation (+0.09% each).

In 2024, the highest demand for salaried workforce reflected by employers through the average annual rate stood out among the occupations of specialists in various fields of activity - major group 2 (0.87%), skilled and related workers - major group 7 (0.73%), as well as workers in the service sector - major group 5 (0.70%). On the other hand, the lowest demand for salaried workforce, both in terms of the average annual rate and the average annual job vacancies, was found in the occupations of skilled workers in agriculture, forestry and fishery - major group 6 (0.24%, 100 vacancies), and members of the legislative body, of the executive, senior heads of public administration, leaders and senior officials - major group 1 (0.41%, 1,500).

Also, the highest values of the average annual rate were recorded in the Bucharest-Ilfov region (1.10%), followed by the Vest (0.72%) and Nord-Vest (0.69%) regions.

The average annual job vacancies were at their highest in the Bucharest-Ilfov region (13,400), which is over 37% of the average annual job vacancies in the entire country. Next were the regions of Nord-Vest (4,800 vacancies), Centru (3,600) si Vest (3,500), which account for about a third of the average annual vacancies in the entire country.

On the other hand, both in terms of the average annual rate and the average annual vacancies, the lowest values were in Sud-Vest Oltenia (0.36%, 1,400 vacancies), followed by Sud-Muntenia (0.52%, 2,900).

Compared with the previous year, with the exception of the Bucharest-Ilfov region, where the average annual rate was constant and the average job vacancies increased slightly (+200 vacancies), in all other development regions the two indicators decreased, the INS specifies. The largest decreases of 2024 were reported in the regions Vest (-0.22% -1,100 vacancies), Nord-Est (-0.16%, -900) and Nord-Vest (-0.12 percentage points, -800).
