Romanian pair Irina Begu / Monica Niculescu qualified for the quarterfinals of the doubles event in the WTA 1,000 tennis tournament in Indian Wells (California), with total prizes of 8,584,055 dollars, after defeating Japanese Eri Hizumi / Makoto Ninomiya 6-4, 7-5, Agerpres reports.
Begu and Niculescu got the victory after an hour and 44 minutes.
The two Romanians secured a cheque for 61,100 dollars and 215 WTA points in doubles.
In the quarterfinals, Begu and Niculescu will face the number five favorites, Gabriela Dabrowski (Canada) / Giuliana Olmos (Mexico).
