A 35-year-old Turkish national is facing a criminal investigation after border police officers in Giurgiu discovered he was transporting goods worth 1.1 million lei on a bus arriving from Turkey, without documents of origin.

'Border police officers from the Giurgiu Territorial Inspectorate of the Border Police - Giurgiu Border Police Sector and the Giurgiu Territorial Border Police Service, during BLITZ-type operations, stopped a bus for inspection on National Road (DN) 5, travelling on the Turkey-Romania route. During the check of the vehicle, border police officers discovered 6,421 items inside the bus, consisting of clothing and perfumery products, all bearing the names of protected brands and suspected of being counterfeit. The goods belonged to a 35-year-old Turkish passenger, who was unable to present documents of origin. The seized products, estimated at 1,172,500 lei if marketed as branded goods, have been confiscated for the continuation of investigations and placed in the institution's evidence storage facility,' the Giurgiu Territorial Border Police Inspectorate (ITPF Giurgiu) said in a press release issued on Wednesday.

The authorities are currently conducting investigations for placing on the market products bearing a trademark identical or similar to a registered trademark for identical or similar goods, thereby causing prejudice to the holder of the registered trademark. Upon completion of the investigation, legal measures will be proposed through the prosecutor's office.
