Campaign for European Parliament and local elections has ended, electoral propaganda forbidden

The electoral campaign, which began on May 10, ended on Saturday, 8 June, at 7:00 a.m. Romanians with the right to vote are expected on Sunday at the polls to choose their representatives in the European Parliament and those in the local administration.

This year, 207,389 candidates were registered for the local elections, and 494 candidates entered the electoral race for the European Parliament elections, according to agerpres.ro.

For a month, the candidates competing for a seat in the European Parliament or in the management of local administrations sent their messages through electoral posters or through meetings with voters.

After the end of the electoral campaign, electoral propaganda materials of any type must be removed from the building of the polling station headquarters in the country.

According to a decision of the Central Electoral Bureau, the removal of electoral propaganda materials of any kind from the building of the headquarters of the polling station in the country and from the respective building shall be ordered by the chairman of the electoral bureau of the polling station and shall be carried out by the persons designated by the mayor within two hours from the communication.

It is forbidden to continue electoral propaganda after the end of the electoral campaign, namely from June 8, 7:00 a.m., until the end of voting.

After June 8, at 7:00 a.m., on the day of the election and until the end of voting, the organizers of events of any kind and their participants may not carry out electoral propaganda actions.

As regards the powers of the chairman of the electoral bureau of the polling station in the country regarding the provision of necessary measures for the elections to take place in good conditions, they also extend outside the polling place, in its courtyard, in the entrances to the courtyard, around the polling place, as well as on the streets and in public squares up to a distance of 500 meters.

To maintain order, the president of the electoral office of the polling station has at his/her disposal the necessary means of order provided by the mayor and the prefect, together with the representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, whom he/she informs about the situations that attract actions on their part.

On June 9, starting at 7:00 a.m. and until the end of voting, the sale or consumption of alcoholic beverages is prohibited within a distance of 500 meters around the polling station premises.

According to the Central Electoral Bureau, by organizing events of any kind, people's access to the polling stations cannot be obstructed before voting, between 18:00 and 19:00, and on voting day, between 6:00 and 23:59.

Almost 19 million voters are expected to vote on Sunday in European and local elections in approximately 20,000 polling stations organized in the country and abroad.
