The chargé d'affaires a.i. of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Bucharest was summoned again to the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the level of secretary of state for Strategic Affairs, following the identification in Tulcea County of new fragments of drones similar to those used by the Russian army in Ukraine.

"Secretary of state for Strategic Affairs Iulian Fota conveyed his firm protest against the re-violation of Romania's airspace and called on the Russian side to immediately cease attacks against the Ukrainian population and civilian infrastructure, including those at the border with Romania. He also requested compliance with the norms of international law, including the inviolability of Romania's airspace," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs in a press release sent to AGERPRES on Wednesday evening.

According to the source, the secretary of state strongly condemned these attacks, which also generate security risks for Romanian citizens and affect the safety of transport on the Danube and through the Black Sea.

"These attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure are illegal and considered war crimes," the Foreign Ministry said.

Last Saturday too, the chargé d'affaires a.i. of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Bucharest was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. On that day, the Ministry of National Defense announced that fragments of a drone similar to those used by the Russian army were discovered by soldiers of the Romanian Naval Forces, in the area of Plauru locality in far eastern Tulcea County.

On Wednesday, the crew of an IAR 330 Puma helicopter of the Romanian Air Force, from the Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base, identified fragments of a drone similar to those used by the Russian army in the area of Nufaru village and Victoria commune in Tulcea County.
