The Minister of Education, Sorin Cimpeanu, and the chairman of the World Bank, David Malpass, met on Thursday, at the no. 168 School in Giulesti-Sarbi, in Capital City, the objective being the analysis of challenges and opportunities in the Romanian educational system and what immediate measures can be taken.

According to a press release, the Minister of Education thanked the chairman of the World Bank for the support given in elaborating and piloting the Early Warning Mechanism in Education (MATE), through which the three schools with the highest risk of school dropout in the area of Giulesti-Sarbi will receive grants worth approximately 500,000 Euro during the National Program of Reducing School Dropout.

The two officials also talked about the new project financed by the World Bank, "Safe schools, inclusive and sustainable", a complementary infrastructure project for systemic measures carried out by the Ministry of Education, which will bring benefits and access to quality education for students that are in vulnerable situation, Agerpres.ro informs.

"In this context, newer schools will be built, safer, with learning spaces that will allow children from marginalized areas to have access to a modern education. The project dedicated for safer schools is emphasizing on the urgent need to design the school of the future and to consolidate the capacity of local authorities of initiating and managing school infrastructure projects, especially in poorer communities, where capacity constraints are among the highest," the press release reads.
